Basex conducts research on knowledge worker productivity, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between people and technology. Commenting on this new survey, Basex president Jonathan Spira said, "Some of the things we are trying to understand better include whether we work with technology or if we are truly prisoners of it, and how we sometimes use our own ingenuity to improve upon the software and make a difference in productivity."
The study is capturing real life stories about the creative use of technology to enhance productivity and how workers adapt technology in creative ways. What kinds of stories are acceptable? "We want people to freely express themselves. Therefore, we are leaving it to the imagination of the survey taker," said Spira. This includes people using products "as intended" and people who improved. A mashup is a good example but so is writing macros or adding plug-ins or finding functionality that even the manufacturer didn't know about.
In addition to the drawing for a Zune, participants can request an executive summary of the findings.
